A WEATHER: EVERYDAY BALLOONS IN STORES TODAY, TRACK PREMIERE, FIRST NATIONAL TOUR ANNOUNCED

Mar 2nd, 2010 filed under: A Weather, News

A Weather’s sophomore album, Everyday Balloons, arrives in stores today!  A Weather has gained a reputation as a gem of the northwestern city’s thriving music scene, and Everyday Balloons is already earning serious praise in the local press again: the Portland Mercury’s End Hits blog recently glowed, “…the record is an absolute stunner, bound to be one of the finest albums you’ll hear all year.

AOL Music’s Spinner premiered new album track “Third Of Life” yesterday as the blog’s ‘Free MP3 of the Day’ (download here).  Spinner is also currently streaming Everyday Balloons in its entirety here.  Early last month, MagnetMagazine.com premiered the first mp3 off the album, “Giant Stairs;” the song can also now be downloaded here.

A Weather will be hitting the road in April for a month-long tour, beginning April 10th with a hometown show at The Woods in Portland and wrapping up May 6th at the Silverlake Lounge in Los Angeles, CA.  Full itinerary is below.

Watch: Capgun Coup “When I’m Gone”

Feb 12th, 2010 filed under: Capgun Coup, News

The lovely people over at Consequence of Sound have premiered a brand new Capgun Coup video for the song “When I’m Gone”. Check it out here!

From Consequence of Sound:

“Turns out that the entire Tyler Chikenelli-directed three-minute video was done with pictures, creating a jerky stop motion-esque feel to the entire deal. The video, consisting mostly of performance shots and a few seconds of a band member getting intimate in a field of leaves in what we can only describe as a Snuggie, feels like a wonderfully amateur cartoon full of weird angles and lots of colors. Of course, the band’s sound suits that DIY sound. In a world of increasingly more prevalent surf punk, the band play the caffeine and Pixie Stick brand of the genre, complete with monotone singing and heavy on the vaguely Caribbean, mostly danceable keys. Seriously, we can’t say it enough: Check this out.”

Simon Joyner wants to play in your living room

Jan 27th, 2010 filed under: News, Simon Joyner

Simon Joyner is planning a few, short tours to support his new album Out Into the Snow. Instead of performing in the typical indie rock venues and bars, he would like to explore a more intimate setting for these shows—living rooms and art spaces around the country. The house (or art space) show removes the elevated stage that separates the performer from the audience. It removes the distracting noise from the bar and provides an environment that allows the music to be the main focus. Simon has always felt that house shows and D.I.Y. spaces are often the best places to perform but it hasn’t been feasible to base a tour on this preference until now.
